France urged to allow the central bank to buy bitcoin.

The president of ARK Ecosystem, François Turens, urged the French government to amend the republic’s financial legislation and allow the central bank to buy bitcoin.

Turens proposed changing the laws so that the central bank and other government bodies could buy bitcoin as a reserve asset. In his words, authorities will consider the initiative if the petition reaches 100,000 votes by September 5.

As of writing, the idea had been backed by 613 people. Among them is Jean-Michel MIS, a member of the French National Assembly and the Legal Affairs Committee.

ARK Ecosystem — a software developer specialising in blockchain-industry solutions.

In October 2020, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire urged to tighten the regulation of the cryptocurrency sector. He linked digital assets to money laundering, drug trafficking and arms trafficking.

In December, the ministry to strengthen KYC procedures for Bitcoin users and introduce mandatory registration of crypto exchanges without fiat currency support.
