Franklin Templeton sees Web3 as a source of a new wave of IT innovations

Decentralisation will kick off the fourth wave of tech-enabled innovations. Such a finding appears in a report by Franklin Templeton, the $1.5 trillion asset manager, CoinDesk reports.

Decentralisation is named by analysts as one of five megatrends transforming modern society.

According to the report, the infrastructure solutions employed by large corporations have moved from private to open, easy-to-adapt variants.

This enables broader participation by individuals and new businesses, but hands disproportionately more power to Web 2.0 companies, which run networks or facilitate their development.

Corporations have also shifted emphasis from tangible assets to intangible assets such as the deployment of new technologies to sustain competitiveness. Over decades the world has moved from the internet to decentralised solutions.

In terms of consumers, such changes in business have amplified the influence that the voice of the individual can have on a company’s strategy. Data analytics and BI have shifted toward a better understanding of customers and their experience, focusing on forecasting future behaviour.

Thanks to digital asset platforms, individuals have gained access to classes of instruments and complex financial products — tokenised assets (including those linked to the real world) and DeFi (including derivatives and staking).

“For representatives of TradFi, who doubt the potential of the new models, it is important to connect them to the trajectory of innovations that has guided us over the past 60 years,” — the report says.

Earlier in September 2022, Franklin Templeton договорилась о сотрудничестве with Eaglebrook Advisors, which gave clients of the latter access to two digital-asset-focused strategies.
