During a hearing in the case of Russian national Alexander Vinnik in a French court, the prosecutor demanded that the defendant be sentenced to ten years in prison and fined 750,000 euros.
According to «РИА Новости», the prosecutor described Vinnik as ‘a very smart and capable pirate’ and a ‘conductor of the orchestra’. The prosecution believes that he gave orders and acted not alone.
Vinnik’s defence continues to insist that he is not the organizer of the money-laundering scheme or the creator of the Locky malware.
«The prosecutor asserts that Vinnik was the beneficiary of the operation of this program on the BTC-e exchange, and regards him as responsible. However, they have no evidence that he owned this program», — рассказал the lawyer Frederic Belo.
He noted that the entire evidentiary basis of the prosecution rests on information obtained from the American side.
The verdict will not be delivered immediately — Belo said it will be no sooner than two weeks.
In France, Vinnik faces charges of extortion and money laundering.
