French regulator inspects Worldcoin offices in Paris

On August 30, the French data regulator CNIL conducted ‘inspections’ at Worldcoin’s Paris office. This is reported by Reuters.

According to a regulator spokesperson, the visit occurred as part of an ongoing investigation into the legality of biometric data usage. He did not provide further details.

Earlier, Worldcoin’s team, replying to CNIL’s complaints, said their project is designed to protect personal privacy and aims to comply with regulatory requirements.

Earlier, Worldcoin announced the official launch on 24 July. The project’s main product — the World ID protocol — is based on zero-knowledge proofs. It is a mobile tool that enables identity verification via retinal scan or a phone number.

Worldcoin has attracted the attention of regulators in several countries. Regulators in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Argentina are examining whether the collection and storage of citizens’ personal information complies with the law.

In Kenya, the project has been suspended, and raids were conducted at the company’s warehouses. To study the matter in detail, a special committee has been established.
