“To guarantee fair compensation for loyal users during the beta test, participants who switch to forks and copies will automatically forfeit the points they earned and lose their existing points. They will still be able to use the app,” the project representatives wrote.

The post sparked a heated reaction in the community, and after a few hours the company deleted the post on X (formerly Twitter).

Later, a co-founder of Friend.Tech using the pseudonym Racer posted an apology for a ‘stupid statement’. However, the tweet was subsequently deleted.

The platform team did not name any specific competitors. However, users noted a new similar app Shares, which is scheduled to launch on August 31.

Friend.Tech distributes ‘incentive points’ to beta testers weekly, and over six months this will total 100 million tokens. The team has not yet disclosed how these points will be allocated, only noting that they ‘will have a special purpose when the app moves to official release status’.

Friend.Tech launched on August 10 on the Ethereum-based second-layer Base network, supported by Coinbase. This is a decentralized social platform integrated with X that allows tokenizing participants’ profiles.

Less than three weeks after launch, the app’s activity metrics sharply declined. The volume of fees and the number of transactions fell by almost 90%. The community declared the project ‘dead’.
