Gate to Launch L2 Network Based on OP Stack
Developers promise high performance and low fees.
The cryptocurrency exchange Gate has announced the launch of its own L2 network, Gate Layer. The platform has also optimized the tokenomics of GT.
It’s time to go “All in Web3”! Launching our own Layer 2 — Gate Layer.

Gate Layer will use GateChain as its settlement layer. GT staking is provided for consensus. The solution is built on OP Stack and is fully compatible with EVM.
The developers highlighted the key advantages of the new infrastructure:
- high performance: 5700+ TPS and a block processing time of 1 second;
- low fees: the cost of 1 million transactions is less than $30 (for comparison, in the Base network this figure is $700, and in BNB Chain — $2000);
- cross-chain compatibility through integration with the LayerZero protocol.

The Gate Layer ecosystem will include three key products: the decentralized exchange for perpetual contract trading Perp, the meme coin generation platform Gate Fun, and the tracker Meme Go.
GT Tokenomics Optimization and GateChain Update
Within the L2 network, the exchange’s native token GT will be used to pay transaction fees. The deflationary model of the coin with quarterly burning will be maintained.
The Gate team reported that by the end of the second quarter, 180.5 million GT — 60% of the initial supply — had been removed from circulation.
Simultaneously, developers completed a major upgrade of GateChain. During the update, they implemented EIP-4844, adding support for BLOB transactions to increase network throughput, and upgraded the EVM to the Cancun version.
“The launch of Gate Layer, the continuous development of the GateChain blockchain, and the update of GT tokenomics are not just technical steps, but a strategic transition to creating an efficient and accessible Web3 infrastructure,” stated Gate.
The exchange’s native token did not react to the news. Over the past day, its price has fallen by almost 1%. At the time of writing, the asset is trading around $16.

Back in December 2024, the Kraken exchange launched its own L2 network called Ink.
