Global Bitcoin ATM installations slow since early 2022

April was the fourth consecutive month of decline in the global pace of crypto-ATM installations. This is evidenced by data from Coin ATM Radar.

The largest number of devices appeared in August 2021 — 2,037 units. This occurred amid upcoming legalization of Bitcoin in El Salvador. As of writing, the country has 204 crypto ATMs.

In December 2021 there were 1,969 machines installed worldwide, and from January 2022 the trend began to decline — in that month 1,687 new ATMs appeared. In February — 970, in March — 757, in April — 739.

There are currently 37,052 devices worldwide.

The leading manufacturer is Genesis Coin, accounting for 41.5% of the market. It is followed by General Bytes (21.6%), BitAccess (15.2%) and Coinsource (5.3%).

The top 10 operators control more than half of the operational Bitcoin ATMs (69.9%). The leaders — Bitcoin Depot, CoinCloud and CoinFlip — account for more than 9% of the total each.

In January, Grand View Research forecast growth of the crypto-ATM market to $1.88 billion by 2028.
