Google Allocates €25 Million for AI Training in Europe
Google has announced the creation of a €25 million ($26.9 million) support fund to train European citizens and companies in artificial intelligence skills, as reported by Reuters.
In announcing the funding, the tech giant opened applications for social enterprises and non-profit organizations that can assist in implementing the initiative.
“We want to play our part in empowering Europe’s workforce, supporting people through change so everyone can benefit,” the company stated.
According to Google representatives, the relevant activities will be organized with the support of the European Union government, academics, and businesses.
Approximately €10 million will be allocated to train workers in skills necessary to “not be left behind.” The corporation will also launch a series of “growth academies” to support companies using AI for scaling.
Google is implementing the program in collaboration with the Centre for Public Impact (CPI), which helps process applications from organizations wishing to learn how to engage with artificial intelligence.
CPI Executive Director Adrian Brown noted the significant potential of AI to “transform the world,” but highlighted the risks of increasing inequality gaps.
“The new [Google] program will help people in Europe develop their knowledge, skills, and confidence in this new area, ensuring no one is left behind,” he emphasized.
Earlier, Google DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman stated that the next stage of AI development involves interactive bots capable of performing tasks for humans.
Back in December 2023, the corporation released an update for the Bard chatbot, enhancing the neural network’s capabilities. The tool surpasses OpenAI’s GPT-4 in performance and accuracy.
