Google Introduces AI Mode in Search Engine

Google Corporation is launching a new experimental feature, AI Mode, in its search engine, aiming to compete with solutions like Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search.

AI Mode allows users to ask complex questions for in-depth exploration directly in Google Search. It will become available to Google One AI Premium subscribers in Labs in the coming days.

The new mode operates on the Gemini 2.0 AI model. It offers enhanced reasoning capabilities and multimodal functions.

AI Mode simultaneously processes multiple related queries from different sources, structuring information into a single, comprehensible answer.

If a user wants to know the difference between a smart ring, smartwatches, and a sleep-tracking mat, AI Mode will provide a detailed comparison of each product’s features with links to sources. Follow-up and additional questions can be asked thereafter.

“You can ask nuanced questions that previously required multiple searches, such as exploring a new concept or comparing detailed options, and receive a helpful AI-generated response with links for further information,” the corporation’s announcement stated.

In May 2024, Google integrated generative AI into its search system. One of the main features of the new technology is overviews. The neural network gathers information based on user queries and summarizes it in a response.

In February 2025, Google updated the Gemini chatbot app, adding widgets to the iPhone lock screen and Control Center.
