Google Lens adds simultaneous image-and-text search

Google has begun beta testing multisearch, allowing users to search images and text simultaneously in Google Lens.

The feature is available to US residents in the Google app for Android and iOS. To use multisearch, tap the Lens icon and swipe up to take a new photo or upload an image from the gallery. Then refine your query in the text field.

For example, a user could upload a photo of a dress and, using text, request a search for a similar outfit in a different color. After refining, Google will return a matching result.

According to company representatives, the feature will help users search in places where a single textual description is insufficient.

“All this has become possible thanks to our latest advances in artificial intelligence, which make understanding the surrounding world easier in more natural and intuitive ways,” Google said.

The company also said it plans to improve multisearch with the help of the large language model MUM, introduced in May 2021.

In March 2022, Google announced the use of AI for detecting personal crises through search queries.

In January, the tech giant added automatic translation of subtitles to the Meet video-conferencing service.
