Snap Chooses Gemini for Multimodality
Snap will incorporate Google’s Gemini AI’s multimodal capabilities into the My AI chatbot available on Snapchat, reports TechCrunch.
The firm has entered an expanded partnership with Google Cloud to enhance My AI’s ability to understand various types of information such as text, audio, images, and video.
With the new functionality, users will be able to photograph a street sign in another country and ask for an explanation or select healthy food from a menu.
In February 2023, Snapchat introduced the My AI chatbot based on ChatGPT. Snap positions it as a virtual friend.
“The partnership with Google Cloud enhances everything that is so important to our community. Snap is an opportunity for people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together. Now, thanks to Gemini in My AI, app users can learn much more, do it very quickly, at the right moment, and easily share information with friends,” said Snap CEO Evan Spiegel.
Back in August, Google added a tool for creating custom versions of Gemini—Gems, and also integrated an image generator capable of creating human images into the chatbot.
Earlier, the corporation introduced three new AI-based features for the desktop version of Chrome: the Lens service for image analysis, the Tab Compar shopping assistant, and natural language integration for search history.
