Google updates privacy policy to allow training of AI-powered products using publicly available data

In Google’s latest privacy policy update, the company allowed the collection of publicly available data to train AI-powered products.

In the policy version dated July 1, 2023, the company said it would collect data to train AI models and to develop its products, such as Google Translate, Bard and Cloud AI.

In the edition from December 15, 2022, mentions of artificial intelligence were absent. Data were collected to improve language models.

Earlier, OpenAI, the developer of the ChatGPT chatbot, filed a lawsuit over the theft of personal data. Plaintiffs allege that the firm violated privacy laws by collecting information through applications integrated with ChatGPT.

In June in the United States urged OpenAI and Twitter to label AI-generated content.

In the same month, Amazon Web Services — Amazon’s subsidiary — established a $100 million fund to advance generative AI.
