Gray Pixel NFT Sells for $1.36 Million

An anonymous artist going by the pseudonym Murat Pak sold his work ‘The Pixel’ as a non-fungible token (NFT) for $1.36 million. The auction took place on the Nifty Gateway platform from April 12 to 14.

The work ‘The Pixel’ appears as a plain 1×1 gray pixel. It became part of the joint collection ‘The Fungible’ by the artist, with Sotheby’s, the auction house founded in 1744.

According to Pak, the collection’s tokens sold for about $16.6 million. The collection includes NFTs in the form of digital ‘cubes’ in eight varieties:

  • A Cube (1);
  • Five Cubes (5);
  • Ten Cubes (10);
  • Twenty Cubes (20);
  • Fifty Cubes (50);
  • Hundred Cubes (100);
  • Five Hundred Cubes (500);
  • Thousand Cubes (1,000).

For example, a buyer of six digital ‘cubes’ received two kinds of NFT: one A Cube and one Five Cubes. A buyer of 26 ‘cubes’ received three kinds of NFT: one A Cube, one Five Cubes and one Twenty Cubes.

The most expensive non-fungible token remains Beeple’s ‘Everydays: The First 5000 Days.’ The piece went under the hammer for $69.3 million.

Earlier, the maker of Funko collectible vinyl figures announced the release of its first NFTs in June. The starting price will be $9.99.

Earlier, former NSA and CIA employee Edward Snowden sold his first NFT for 2224 ETH — about $5.5 million at the time of writing.
