During August, the mining company Greenidge Generation mined about 301 BTC. The total since the start of 2022 stands at 1,771 BTC, говорится in a press release.
As of the 31st, the firm had about 24,500 miners with a total hashrate of around 2.4 EH/s.
According to the statement, Greenidge Generation put around 5,000 older and less efficient devices into autonomous mode (0.3 EH/s).
“The uptime [at the Dresden, New York facility] was 100% in August and 99.9% for the eight months,” the company added.
The company’s mining data center is located on its own hybrid power plant. The operation of this facility has drawn complaints from local activists and environmentalists, who are convinced of its negative impact on the environment.
In 2022, New York’s Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit by environmentalists against Greenidge.
But in early June, environmentalists and New York Assembly member Anna Kelles urged Governor Kathy Hochul to revoke the mining permit from the company.
Kelles became the sponsor of a bill introducing a two-year moratorium on cryptocurrency mining powered by electricity generated from carbon-based sources.
In late April the measure was endorsed by the lower house of the State Legislature, and on June 3 by the Senate. The bill is awaiting the governor’s signature.
Following a second-quarter loss of $107.9 million, Greenidge Generation revised its expansion plans in Texas.
