Greenidge Generation to invest $264 million in new bitcoin mining venture

The mining company Greenidge Generation announced plans to build a data center in South Carolina to mine cryptocurrencies. The investment in the project will total $264 million.

It is expected that the Spartanburg County facility will create 40 new jobs. Its power consumption after completion will be at least 100 MW.

The first phase of the project is expected to launch in the second half of 2022. Further expansion will continue through 2025.

In October 2021 the company ordered 22,500 ASIC miners for deployment at new sites in Texas and South Carolina.

Earlier, Greenidge Generation stated that the Spartanburg facility would be fully carbon-neutral.

\n\n\n\n

In July 2021, locals accused the company that runs mining operations at a New York state power plant of environmental violations.
