Hacked Livecoin Exchange Moves to a New Domain

The Livecoin cryptocurrency exchange, which was hacked in late December 2020, announced its move to the temporary domain Livecoin.news.

According to the exchange’s representatives, they have managed to partially restore access to media channels. However, the new site remains the sole channel of communication with customers for now.

“We are strictly limited in publishing news after the investigation began. The only thing we can say right now is that a carefully planned attack on our service was carried out from various sides. We temporarily lost control over our servers and other channels,” the statement says.

Livecoin did not specify an exact date for the platform’s resumption.

The exchange is offering bounties for information about the attack.

“If you have any useful information that could help recover transferred funds, locate the breach or the attacker, please contact us at bounty@livecoin.news. The bounty amount is determined on a case-by-case basis,” added Livecoin.

Earlier, on December 24, the price of Bitcoin on the Livecoin exchange surged to several hundred thousand dollars, and withdrawals from the platform became unavailable.

At the same time, director Svetlana Geller deleted her Telegram account. Users speculated that the platform’s founders carried out an exit scam.

Soon a message appeared on the homepage stating that the exchange had been subjected to a “carefully planned attack,” and that the administration had completely lost control over the servers, backend and nodes.

According to preliminary estimates, unknown actors stole 106 BTC, 361 ETH and 236 BCH.

Later, unknown actors left a message on the site of the recently hacked Livecoin with a bitcoin ransom demand. That message has since been updated with the phrase: “Oops! Time’s up, Livecoin…”
