The Vastaamo psychotherapy centre in Finland was hacked. Hackers exploited vulnerabilities in the system to gain access to the centre’s database of thousands of clients and demanded a ransom of €450,000 in BTC, according to Foreigner.fi.
The perpetrators threatened to publish the stolen data if the ransom was not paid. They have already begun carrying out the threats — hackers have published the personal data of at least 300 people.
The published information included the patient’s name, phone number, email address, residential address, and the content of therapy sessions.
It was reported that hackers offered to delete individual patients’ data for a ransom of up to €540 in BTC.
Earlier this year, one of the largest hospital networks in the US became a victim of ransomware.
