Unknown individuals withdrew about $870,000 from one of Mark Cuban’s wallets. He confirmed the hack in a comment DL News.
The first to flag the incident was a user on X going by WazzCrypto. He said that all assets had been moved from an inactive wallet that had not been active for 160 days.
“I opened MetaMask for the first time in several months. They must have been watching,” said Cuban.
According to Etherscan, among the withdrawn assets were stablecoins USDC and USDT, the tokens NFT-marketplaces Rarible (RARI) and SuperRare (RARE), as well as other coins.
“I’m almost certain I downloaded a version of MetaMask with some junk. […] MetaMask crashed several times. I just stopped,” explained the billionaire.
Cuban also transferred more than $2 million in USDC to the Coinbase exchange to preserve the funds.
In June 2021, Cuban was among those affected by the devaluation of the IRON Finance token amid a bank run.
In September 2023, hackers breached Vitalik Buterin’s X profile and posted a fraudulent message. According to blockchain analyst ZachXBT, the loss exceeded $691,000.
The Ethereum co-founder said the breach occurred due to a SIM swap.
