The developers of the clicker game Hamster Kombat, in an interview with The Block, discussed the game’s origins and announced a second airdrop.
The project’s founders chose to remain anonymous but stated they have experience in game and blockchain development. They have been involved in the crypto industry since 2013.
In creating the gaming Telegram application, the team was inspired by Notcoin. Other sources of inspiration included the meme culture from the GameStop and Reddit saga, where retail investors showcased their power to Wall Street.
“We were inspired by the success of Notcoin and the popularity of social media games in the 2010s. Therefore, we took the best from each and added our philosophy of unity and a lot of educational content,” the developers stated.
In Hamster Kombat, players act as CEOs of a crypto exchange, accumulating game coins by clicking on the screen as they develop their virtual business.
A similar gameplay was used by Notcoin, but the project’s creator, Alexander Plotvinov, has already announced a departure from the clicker idea. He expressed doubts about the longevity of “tap games” due to the model’s instability. As part of a transformation, the Notcoin team, in partnership with 1inch and Sign, plans to launch a startup accelerator for the Telegram and TON blockchain ecosystems.
The founders of Hamster Kombat are optimistic about the game’s prospects following the first airdrop, scheduled for the end of July. They have already planned a second distribution of the game asset.
“We believe that a token owned by millions of users worldwide has immense value in itself,” the developers believe.
They also stated their intention to combat bots, referral fraud, and manipulation of game processes such as using multiple devices.
According to the project, its user base exceeds 250 million accounts.
“We are an educational-entertainment project aimed at mass adoption. Our mission is to reach one billion people worldwide who will become part of the ecosystem and learn about blockchain and Web3. We also care about financial literacy and universal basic income,” the creators of Hamster Kombat stated.
Earlier, the game received support from Telegram founder Pavel Durov, who announced the release of its token HMSTR on the TON blockchain. The Bybit exchange has opened the coin’s pre-market.
