
Haru Invest CEO Attacked in Courtroom
On August 28, Lee Hyun-su, the CEO of South Korean cryptocurrency investment platform Haru Invest, accused of embezzling approximately $826 million from clients, was attacked with a weapon in a courtroom. This was reported by local media.
During the session, one of the aggrieved investors approached Lee and stabbed him multiple times in the neck and leg. The attacker was identified as a 51-year-old man named Kang. He was apprehended at the scene.
Lee, bleeding profusely, was hospitalized at a nearby facility. An investigation has been launched.
In June 2023, Haru Invest and its partner crypto-lending company Delio suspended withdrawals.
In February 2024, South Korean authorities arrested three executives of Haru Invest on charges of fraud and embezzlement of digital assets, including Lee Hyun-su. He was released on bail in July.
Approximately 16,000 users have been recognized as victims in the case. They were promised “risk-free investments” with returns of up to 12% per annum.
