Helium community approves migration of project to the Solana blockchain

The Helium project community, behind the development of a decentralised wireless network, approved the proposal to migrate it from its native blockchain to Solana.

Developers presented the proposal in August 2022. The process concluded on September 21. The proposal was supported by 6,177 community members, who staked over 12 million HNT tokens in its favour. 1,270 voted against.

According to the team, the move to Solana will scale the protocol by enabling more efficient transactions and functional interoperability.

The initiative envisages that the HNT, MOBILE and IOT tokens will remain within the Helium ecosystem, but will be migrated to the new blockchain. When the migration is complete, developers will release an update for the Helium Wallet.

Earlier in February 2022, media reported that Helium raised $200 million at a valuation of $1.2 billion.
