A major German hosting provider Hetzner said that using its servers to run software for cryptocurrency mining violates the company’s rules. Twitter users drew attention to a comment on the r/hetzner subreddit.

«Using our products for any mining-related applications, even remotely, is not allowed. Including Ethereum. […] Even if you simply run a single node, we will consider this a violation of our rules», — spoken in a statement by the cloud provider’s official spokesperson.
According to Ethernodes, at the time of writing Hetzner accounts for 16% of Ethereum nodes. The leader is Amazon Web Services.

Другой комментатор добавил, что такая позиция «вот-вот станет PR-катастрофой для Hetzner».
«Понятно, почему вы запретили майнинг, но необъяснимо, почему вы запретили ноды», — отметил он.
Заявление представителя Hetzner вызвало критику в сообществе. Разработчик под ником banteg отметил, что «такой провайдер не внушает доверия».

Earlier, Messari analysts noted that 69% of Ethereum nodes are hosted by Amazon Web Services, Hetzner and OVH out of 65% of nodes located in data centers. For Solana, 72% of 95% of nodes are hosted by these same infrastructure providers.
Back in May 2021, Hetzner banned mining on its servers after users began mining cryptocurrency Chia with them.
