Hidden-miner installer found in Call of Duty cheat code

Call of Duty developers have found that one of Warzone’s popular cheats is malware and allows hackers to control victims’ computers. сообщает Vice.

The cheat installs Cod Dropper v0.1, which subsequently loads other malicious applications. One of the hackers’ goals is to use gamers’ powerful graphic processing units to mine cryptocurrency.

“Since the cheat code requires disabling antivirus software and granting high security privileges, it remains undetected anti-cheat software,” Activision security researchers said.

The program is distributed on hacker forums as a free, undetectable cheat that allegedly provides users with various advantages in the game.

Earlier in March, operators of the Purple Fox began hacking Windows devices by brute-forcing the Server Message Block password to spread the hidden miner.
