Hints of Tokens and Airdrop Found in Flappy Bird Relaunch
The Flappy Bird Foundation has announced the relaunch of the well-known game Flappy Bird. Hidden pages on the project’s website suggest plans for a token release, an airdrop, and the integration of Play-to-Earn mechanics.
Flappy Bird was released in May 2013. By early 2014, it had gone viral and became the most downloaded game in the App Store. Creator Dong Nguyen claimed at the time that he was earning $50,000 a day. At the height of its popularity, he unexpectedly removed the game, citing the risk of addiction.
I am sorry ‘Flappy Bird’ users, 22 hours from now, I will take ‘Flappy Bird’ down. I cannot take this anymore.

A decade later, The Flappy Bird Foundation has decided to organize a relaunch. According to their statement, this step required “acquiring legal rights and even working with the predecessor.”
I AM BACK!!
Just a decade ago, I was the talk of the town and soaring to new heights with my 100 million friends. Sadly, I had to leave the fame and spotlight behind to go home and find out who I really am.
Thanks to my super Flappy Bird® fans, I’m refreshed, reinvigorated,… pic.twitter.com/b4UaFZQA2r

Nguyen has distanced himself from the new version of the game, stating that he sold nothing and does not support cryptocurrency.
No, I have no related with their game. I did not sell anything.
I also don’t support crypto.— Dong Nguyen (@dongatory) September 15, 2024
The Flappy Bird Foundation reported that they purchased the rights to the game from Gametech Holdings LLC, which acquired them following the expiration of the trademark.
Cryptocurrencies in Flappy Bird
Analyst Varun Biniwale discovered on a removed page of the website that “Flappy Bird will fly on Solana higher than ever before.”
“Flappy Bird will become the world’s first open-source Web 2.0 and Web3 game owned by the community,” the page states.
The concept of earning through the game and an airdrop is also mentioned there.
The discovered loading screen mentions a FLAP token on the TON blockchain.
“Is this a dubious project aiming to capitalize on the nostalgic appeal of a beloved game while quietly profiting from cryptocurrency and Web3 integration? It seems so,” the researcher concluded.
In September, DappRadar specialists noted record activity in the blockchain gaming segment.
