Huobi subsidiary secures FinCEN licence

HBIT Inc., the subsidiary of Huobi, has obtained a licence to conduct financial activity from FinCEN. This is stated in a press release.

«[…] this will lay the groundwork for cryptocurrency-related business in the United States in the future as part of the company’s globalisation strategy and its compliance objectives,» the company said.

According to the release, the exchange’s Hong Kong units also received licences to manage assets and to provide securities advisory services from the local regulator.

According to CoinGecko, Huobi is one of the largest spot trading platforms for digital assets — daily trading volume on the exchange exceeds $1 billion.

In June the bitcoin exchange announced its inclusion in New Zealand’s Financial Service Providers Register and its receipt of the so-called “innovative licence” in Dubai.

In the same month the operator Huobi announced the closure of its Thailand unit after the Ministry of Finance revoked its licence.

In February the company announced its return to the U.S. market after two years’ absence.

Earlier, the Huobi subsidiary announced that the Gibraltar regulator approved the transfer of spot trading services from the Seychelles to the British Overseas Territory.

Earlier in June it emerged that the bitcoin exchange planned to cut staff by 30% amid a sharp drop in revenue following the ban on Chinese users in September 2021.
