Illegal Mining Farm Overloads Power Grid in Makhachkala

Energy officials in Dagestan, in collaboration with law enforcement, have uncovered an illegal mining farm in the Kirovsky district of Makhachkala, according to a report by the branch of “Rosseti North Caucasus” — “Dagenergo.”

Experts observed a significant overload on the power line extending from the “Polygon ‘Solntse'” substation, which is equipped with two transformers, each with a capacity of 6.3 MVA.

During the inspection, it was determined that the technological disruption was caused by the operation of a mining farm owned by a private individual. Network losses amounted to about 70%, affecting the electricity supply to nearly 1,500 residents and ten commercial entities.

Law enforcement seized 250 mining devices, each with a capacity of 3.5 kVA.

Earlier, energy officials in Dagestan urged bitcoin miners to shut down their farms during cold spells.
