Illegal mining farm uncovered on hotel premises in Georgia
Energo-Pro Georgia identified an illegal mining farm on the premises of the Banguriani hotel in the Georgian village of Mestia. This was reported by Sputnik, citing the company’s statement.
“The equipment found in the hotel uses as much electricity as 4–5 medium-sized villages,” Energo-Pro Georgia said.
Representatives noted that over the past year, due to miners in the region, electricity consumption has risen catastrophically:
“The Mestia municipality currently consumes as much electricity as 12–14 other districts combined.”
Excessive consumption leads to damage to power lines and outages, the company said, and urged law enforcement to investigate all cases of electricity theft.
Earlier in January, Energo-Pro Georgia identified another mining farm in Mestia.
