Illegal Mining Operations Halted in Karachay-Cherkessia with Seizure of 247 Rigs
In the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, law enforcement officials have shut down three illegal cryptocurrency mining operations. One of these operations caused damage amounting to 4.17 million rubles, according to a press release.
The perpetrator rented a non-residential building on the outskirts of a village and installed 186 miners that operated around the clock. Modifications to the electricity meters allowed for uncontrolled consumption, explained Irina Volk, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
A criminal case has been initiated against the suspect for causing significant property damage (part 2 of article 165 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The suspect has been placed under travel restrictions and required to behave appropriately.
Elsewhere, police discovered an underground mining farm constructed on leased land near the village of Erkason, housing 25 devices.
An additional 36 miners were seized from a metal shed on the premises of a livestock farm.
In both instances, the equipment consumed electricity bypassing the meters. Procedural decisions will be made regarding these incidents.
As reported by MTS EnergyTool, the total capacity of mining farms in Russia exceeds 11 GW, but only 3 GW is used legally.
