The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) discovered an illegally connected mining farm in Kharkiv Oblast that monthly consumed electricity worth hundreds of thousands of hryvnias.
Equipment was identified in a rented warehouse not far from Kharkiv. According to the SBU, several local residents are involved in organizing the farm.
Law enforcement noted that the perpetrators siphoned electricity “on an industrial scale” through illegal connections to the power grid:
“At the same time, the systematic overloading of utility networks could lead to large-scale disruptions to electricity supply for residential housing and critical infrastructure in frontline areas.”
The SBU said a pre-trial investigation has been launched.
Earlier in Kyiv, authorities uncovered a fraudulent scheme to attract victims’ funds under the guise of investments in mining farms.
