Immutable Launches Early Access to zkEVM Mainnet

Web3 gaming studio Immutable, in collaboration with Polygon Labs, has launched the zkEVM mainnet for Ethereum scaling, available to select ecosystem partners.

Among the first to test the new solution are projects such as Guild of Guardians, Metalcore, Shardbound, Treeverse, Cool Cats, BAD MAD Robots, Space Nation, Eyeball Games, and Imaginary Ones, according to The Block.

The zkEVM employs zero-knowledge proof technology (ZK-Rollups), conducting off-chain computations at the second layer to reduce costs and accelerate transactions. Dapps based on the network operate independently from the existing L2 blockchain on StarkEx.

Immutable and Polygon began developing the gamer-focused platform in March 2023. The governance token used is MATIC.

“This is a network built exclusively for gamers and gaming studios. Over the past 12 months, more than 200 projects have committed to developing on Immutable. As a result, our market share has approached 70%. The year 2024 will see the release of a large number of games, with tens of millions of gamers gaining new experiences,” commented Immutable co-founder Robbie Ferguson.

According to a press release, current Immutable products will be compatible with Immutable zkEVM.

The network will offer “gas-free” functionality for gamers using its non-custodial wallet, which is also used for player profile management and authentication.

Previously, Polygon Labs assisted in developing zkEVM networks for Astar Network, IDEX, Palm Network, and Manta Pacific.

Back in February 2023, Immutable introduced the Immutable Passport.
