In Cherepovets, police uncover a network of web-porn studios that accepted cryptocurrency payments

Law enforcement authorities in Cherepovets uncovered a large network of web porn studios that accepted cryptocurrency payments. The information was reported by the Investigative Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Vologda region.

According to investigators, the illicit enterprise led by three residents of Cherepovets had been operating since 2018. Its primary clientele consisted of foreigners who paid for pornographic content in cryptocurrency.

For the special operation, investigators brought in SOBR and OMON. In a single night they conducted more than 50 searches and detained over 70 people. In rented apartments, law enforcement found more than 30 porn studios. About 18 million in rubles and foreign currency, drugs, and equipment were seized.

Criminal cases were opened against the organisers for distributing pornography and exploiting a minor. According to investigators, one of the webcam models was under 18 when she began working at the studio. The suspects remain in custody.

Earlier, Chainalysis analysts estimated that last year providers of ‘adult’ content involving minors earned $930,000 in Bitcoin and Ethereum.

As a reminder, only 10% of Pornhub actresses prefer to be paid in cryptocurrency. Since 2018, users of the platform have been able to pay for content with Verge (XVG), Horizen (ZEN) and Tron (TRX) coins.
