In Italy, authorities foiled a Bitcoin-paid plot to attack a woman
The Milan police arrested a 40-year-old local resident who commissioned a brutal attack on his former girlfriend for €10,000 in bitcoins. Local media сообщают this.
The suspect, an IT specialist at a major corporation, was deeply distressed by the breakup from November 2018 to July 2020. After the woman again rejected his gifts and declined a meeting, the Italian decided to take revenge.
According to investigators, he hired someone on the dark web who, under the guise of a robbery, would attack the victim and literally ‘break her back’ so she would be left paralysed. Subsequently, the killer was to ambush the woman on the street and pour acid on her face.
For the service, the offender paid an advance in bitcoins. In total, the killer was to receive almost €10,000 ($11,900).
The investigation began in February after Interpol colleagues alerted them to suspicious communications on the dark web.
The suspect is currently under house arrest. He is charged with attempted aggravated assault and stalking.
Earlier in February, US authorities arrested a 37-year-old Wisconsin resident on charges of attempting to organise a contract killing. According to media reports, she paid the killer $5,633 in cryptocurrency.
