In Kalmykia, criminals stole more than 1.4 million rubles from a ‘bitcoin investor’

The Kalmyk police are investigating a criminal case of fraud masquerading as brokerage services on a ‘cryptocurrency exchange’. This was said by the regional MVD.

A 56-year-old resident of the Oktyabrsky district found an advertisement for a ‘brokerage firm’ in a popup window of the browser’s news feed.

Over several months he transferred funds after speaking with people posing as employees of a financial company. One of the scammers’ numbers had international status.

Subsequently they ceased contacting the ‘investor’.

In total, the victim transferred more than 1.4 million rubles to the scammers’ accounts.

Earlier, a resident of Khakassia fell victim to a similar scheme. He handed over to the scammers almost 3 million rubles.
