A Kursk resident, whose apartment housed six mining rigs, was robbed by his own neighbours. The local police reported this to the local Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The resident did not live in the apartment on a permanent basis and contacted the police when he noticed the equipment had stopped generating income.
Police found no signs of a break-in and suspected that the miner’s neighbours were involved. This version was subsequently confirmed.
According to the agency, a resident of the neighbouring apartment had long noticed the hum of the operating GPUs and the owner’s prolonged absence. Together with his girlfriend and a friend, he accessed the premises via a neighboring balcony. The suspects carried away 30 GPUs and hid them in a car.
Local media reported that the total value of the stolen equipment exceeded 4 million rubles.
The suspects have already confessed and returned the property. They said they knew the GPUs’ value and planned to sell them.
For theft with unlawful entry into the apartment, they face up to seven years in prison.
Earlier in June, investigators from the criminal investigation department of Irkutsk Oblast detained a local resident for stealing equipment used for mining Bitcoin worth 120,000 rubles.
