In Kyiv, suspects in a series of explosions detained for extorting 50 BTC

According to investigators, two men detonated an explosion near Kyiv’s Shuliavska metro station and in one of the residential buildings.
After the first blast, the suspects contacted the SBU and other government bodies, demanding that 50 bitcoins be transferred to them. They also posted advertisements with similar demands.
According to the SBU press service, after an anonymous call, law enforcement authorities neutralised two more explosive devices.
Following 15 searches, physical evidence of the organisation of the blasts was seized.
«They [the suspects] studied the experience of criminals using cryptocurrencies of all kinds and hoped to go unpunished, receiving the money to an electronic wallet», — написал on Facebook Deputy Interior Minister of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko.
The suspects face seven to twelve years in prison.
Earlier, the SBU identified and stopped the work of an international network that helped “convert cryptocurrency from a dubious origin into cash.”
