In Russia, an AI system named 'Comrade Major' has been created to de-anonymize Telegram channel authors

Russian company T.Hunter has developed an AI system called ‘Comrade Major’ capable of identifying owners of anonymous Telegram channels. It is reported by «Известия».

The AI can gather information from the channel description, its archival copies, posts, and also receives metadata of published files, including messages, sticker packs, uploaded documents and videos.

‘Comrade Major’ has also been trained to analyse data leaks, such as mobile numbers and addresses, and to correlate them with a username or photograph.

Another function is the verification of legal entities by INN. In particular, it provides general information about a company: its age, headcount, charter capital, registered address, and more.

In addition, the authors said they plan to train the neural network to study social media accounts, phone numbers, email addresses and cryptocurrency wallets.

To simplify working with the tool, a Telegram bot has been created.

A full version of the program is planned for release in 2024–2025. It is intended for government and private organisations that investigate cybercrime connected with anonymous Telegram communities.

Currently, ‘Comrade Major’ is undergoing internal testing at the developer.

Earlier in April, Rostec’s acquisition of the software suite ‘Okhotnik’, which enables identifying anonymous Telegram users.

The tool analyses more than 700 open data sources, including social networks, blogs, forums, messengers, classified ads, cryptocurrency blockchains, the dark net and state automated services.
