In the UAE, investors who lost $30m robbed a cryptocurrency expert
Six people in the UAE attacked a cryptocurrency expert, whose advice led them to lose $30 million. Local media сообщают.
The victim confirmed that he had recommended the group invest in an unnamed cryptocurrency, and after a few days their assets grew to $100 million. However, the coin’s price soon fell to zero, and the investors lost all their savings.
Later the gang contacted the expert again to compensate for their losses. He advised them of a new digital currency that had not yet been officially launched. The investors created an online trading platform, but after 15 minutes the site was hacked and the asset devalued.
According to case files, the attackers then broke into the villa of the man and his wife. From there they stole $200,000, two mobile phones, three watches, and a diamond ring worth 390,000 dirhams (over $106,000).
Under threat of murder, the attackers also demanded the return of the $30 million they had lost.
A UAE court found all six guilty of robbery and sentenced them to six months in prison.
Earlier in February, a resident of Saint Petersburg fell victim to an attack in which unknown assailants, who claimed to be FSB officers, отняли у него полмиллиона рублей в наличных и криптовалюте.
