In Ukraine, the creator of an online exchange was accused of illegal operations

Ukrainian law enforcement authorities accused a resident of Nikolaev of illegal operations through payment systems banned in the country.

According to the site of the National Police of the Mykolaiv region, in 2019 the offender created a website for exchanging electronic money and cryptocurrencies. He conducted operations also through the Qiwi wallet, WebMoney, and Yandex.Money. The services are banned in Ukraine.

Users transferred money to the suspect’s bank account, and he sent the equivalent amount to electronic or cryptocurrency wallets.

He charged a commission of up to 30% of the transferred amount per transaction.

Preliminary estimates put the exchange’s monthly turnover at more than 1.5 million hryvnias.

During the checks, police identified the accounts of electronic payment systems and banks through which the illegal operations passed.

Earlier in Ukraine, suspects in an international fraud group involved in money laundering were detained. The criminals extorted money from victims under the pretext of investments in cryptocurrencies, securities and other assets.
