Venezuelan authorities are searching for a 23-year-old man who allegedly orchestrated his own kidnapping to steal bitcoins worth $1.15 million. This was reported on Instagram by Douglas Rico, head of the department of scientific, criminal and forensic investigations of the Venezuelan police.
Andrés Jesús Dos Santos Hernández (Andrés Jesús Dos Santos Hernández) told people entrusted with managing his crypto assets that he had been kidnapped. The attackers allegedly forced him to withdraw cryptocurrencies from the Binance exchange and transfer them to various wallets.
The police charged Hernández with fraud and money laundering and issued a warrant for his arrest.
Earlier in July, a Ukrainian blogger staged her kidnapping for a ransom of 5 BTC.
