The publication «Українські новини» discovered inaccurate or fake data in 15 out of 23 declarations by employees of the NABU mentioning cryptocurrencies. Journalists suggested that officials might be using this to conceal financial manipulations.
Among those mentioned is senior detective Oleksandr Rykovtsev. According to the declaration, in 2016, his wife purchased 12.49 BTC ($1.1 million at the time of investigation). However, the media found that the specified wallet had not conducted any transactions, as it was not registered on the network.
Journalists uncovered that senior detective Stanislav Braverman purchased cryptocurrency worth 1.3 million hryvnias, which was sold on the same day.
The investigation also focused on senior detective Oleksandr Moiseev, who declared the purchase of digital assets worth 820,000 hryvnias in one day and their sale for 757,000 hryvnias the next.
Other officials were found to have declared amounts up to 1 million hryvnias. Journalists believe the wallets mentioned are fake.
«The circulation of cryptocurrency with the inflow and outflow of millions to detectives’ wallets indicates a possible scheme for laundering corrupt money. […] From whom and for what they were received should be determined by law enforcement and the NACP», — added the media.
As reported by Opendatabot, in 2024, Ukrainian officials submitted 2113 declarations mentioning crypto assets. The most popular coins among civil servants were USDT, Bitcoin, and Ethereum.
