Indian online retailer Flipkart launches the Flipverse metaverse
The Walmart-owned Indian marketplace Flipkart has begun testing its own virtual world Flipverse, according to TechCrunch.
The project is aimed at attracting customers during the holiday season. The pilot initiative’s partner was eDAO, affiliated with Polygon.
In the metaverse Flipverse, leading global brands will offer their products to customers: Puma, Noise, Nivea, Lavie, Tokyo Talkies, Campus, VIP, Ajmal Perfumes and Himalaya.
According to the press release, customers can expect a ‘gamified, interactive and exciting’ experience. They will also be able to collect loyalty points called Supercoins and digital collectibles from partner brands.
Details of Flipkart’s plans to explore metaverse capabilities and NFT were revealed in April. At that time, the marketplace created an innovative laboratory to study potential commercial uses of Web3 technologies.
In October, Walmart’s chief technology officer Suresh Kumar predicted a rising role for cryptocurrencies in payments.
Earlier, Joseph Lubin, founder of ConsenSys and one of the Ethereum co-founders, said that in many years the augmented and virtual experience will transform everyday life, but for now metaverses resemble the Internet in 1994.
