Intruder Climbs Hollywood Sign to Promote Meme Coin

On February 15, a man in Los Angeles climbed the Hollywood Sign with a flag promoting the meme token Vigilante (VIGI) on the Solana blockchain.

Following the post on X, the coin’s market capitalization surged to $3.82 million, only to plummet by 71% within an hour, according to DEX Screener.

The individual waved a white flag featuring the token’s logo and illegible text. He was removed from the letter “D” after an hour. Later, police confirmed the young man was taken into custody, reports local news channel KTLA.

Vigilante representatives launched the project on the Pump.fun platform on the day of the incident, announcing “the most viral marketing campaign.” According to a statement on social media, this is the first phase of their strategy, with the next event “being 10 times bigger.”

Earlier, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao revealed his Belgian shepherd’s name—Broccoli, which led to the creation of dozens of meme coins with that name. Interest in the topic surged after the post, with one token’s market capitalization exceeding $150 million.

Previously, Elon Musk changed his X-profile name to Harry Bōlz, sparking interest in meme coins of the same name. As a result, the HARRYBOLZ token’s price soared over 400 times, but plummeted by 94% after Musk reverted to his real name.
