IOHK outlines Cardano development plans for 2022
Following the implementation of smart contracts in Cardano’s mainnet, the company IOHK, behind the project’s development, will focus on performance optimisation and blockchain scalability. Its chief marketing officer Tim Harrison said.
NEW BLOG: With core smart contract capability now deployed, the next phase for #Cardano focuses on performance optimization and scaling.
Here’s how we plan to steadily increase Cardano’s capacity & throughput during 2022. And it starts right here…https://t.co/zgbRvaWixv pic.twitter.com/h25H4EGYB4

“Now that we have entered the Basho phase, we are putting more effort into optimisation and scaling. … Parameter adjustments, improvements, refinements and other innovations — all of this will play a role in the sustained increase in Cardano’s performance and throughput during 2022,” Harrison wrote.
To achieve these goals, IOHK plans to work on on-chain and off-chain solutions.
The first set includes:
- increasing block size;
- reducing block propagation time;
- introduction of input endorsers;
- the introduction of memory and CPU parameters in Plutus smart contracts and improvements to their scripts;
- general node modernization;
- the ability to store part of the blockchain state data on the nodes’ disk space.
Developers plan to integrate the Cardano network with a number of sidechains, including Milkomeda from dcSpark and Mamba (IOHK’s own development).
The company will continue to work on the Hydra Layer-2 protocol and the implementation of off-chain computations. In particular, the network may gain the ability for asynchronous contract execution (Asynchronous Contract Execution, ACE).
IOHK also intends to implement the Mithril protocol introduced in 2021, which is designed to improve blockchain synchronisation and increase the efficiency of multi-signature aggregation.
In the last 24 hours Cardano (ADA) rose by more than 8%, according to CoinGecko. At the time of writing the cryptocurrency traded near $1.38.

As reported, Vitalik Buterin ran a poll on Twitter asking which currency aside from Ethereum would be the most popular in 2035. Cardano emerged as the poll’s winner.
