IOHK pins down exact activation date for Vasil on Cardano network

IOHK developers announced the activation date for the Vasil hard fork on the Cardano mainnet — September 22.

Vasil — Cardano’s largest upgrade to date, expected to increase network throughput, lower transaction costs and improve security.

The hard fork will also add new features to the Plutus system for application developers.

The team expects a smooth technical transition without hiccups or interruptions in block production. Users do not need to take any action.

The upgrade is named in honour of a late Cardano ambassador who planted more than 10,000 trees in his lifetime.

For the activation of the upgrade, among other things, 25 cryptocurrency exchanges that provide about 80% of ADA liquidity must update their systems. It is also required that 75% of blocks are produced by nodes running the new software version.

Originally, Vasil was planned to activate at the end of June 2022, but the date was moved to the following month. In July, the developers updated the testnet and again delayed the hard fork.

Cardano ranked 26th among 600 global brands in MBLM’s Brand Intimacy ranking. Bitcoin was 30th, while Uniswap and Solana were 261st and 265th respectively.
