The Iranian Ministry of Industry has authorised the operation of 30 cryptocurrency mining companies. This is reported by Financial Tribune.
Six licences were issued in Semnan Province, four in Alborz, Mazandaran, East Azerbaijan and Zanjan. In the Tehran metropolitan area, only one company received a permit.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Iran linked the Ministry of Intelligence and National Security to the fight against illegal cryptocurrency mining.
The shortage was driven by rising electricity consumption in other sectors and dry weather, which constrained hydroelectric power generation.
Earlier in May, reports said that Iranian authorities completely banned cryptocurrency mining until the end of summer 2021.
In June, Reuters wrote that police uncovered an illegal cryptocurrency mining farm at a derelict factory in Tehran and seized 7,000 miners.
