Irkutsk courts confirm 650 million rubles in damages from crypto mining

Over the past five years, Irkutskenergosbyt won 1,348 court cases against miners who illegally used electricity, for a total of nearly 650 million rubles. 

The rulings have taken effect and the defendants were ordered to pay damages. 104 claims were paid before judgments were handed down.

In all, the utility filed 2,113 lawsuits against “grey” miners. More than 400 are still before the courts.

Some areas of the Irkutsk region are among the regions where authorities banned mining during peaks in power demand. In 2025 this applies from 1 January to 15 March, and in subsequent years from 15 November to 15 March.
