Israeli resident found guilty of stealing 75,000 DASH from his friend
An Israeli court has found local resident Afek Zard guilty of stealing 75,000 DASH from his friend. At the time of the theft, the amount was more than $6 million.
According to CryptoPotato, citing Israeli media, Zard was a regular guest at his friend’s home and could enter there freely in the owner’s absence. Law enforcement established that he breached the victim’s computer and gained access to a wallet containing 75,000 DASH.
Zard denied all charges and refused to disclose passwords to his devices. As a result, authorities were unable to seize the stolen property.
The court found him guilty of hacking devices, money laundering, fraud, and aggravated theft.
Prosecutors had sought at least 12 years in prison for Zard. However, the court sentenced him to eight years in prison, a $1.5 million fine, and about $80,000 in compensation to the victim.
Earlier, a former employee of the New Zealand bitcoin exchange Cryptopia admitted to embezzling over $170,000 in cryptocurrency.
