IT firm Globant invested $500,000 in Bitcoin

The IT and software development company Globant announced investments in the primary cryptocurrency. This is disclosed indocuments filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

In the “Intangible assets” section, the firm noted that during the first quarter of 2021 it acquired digital gold for $500,000.

“Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency that is considered an indefinite intangible asset, since it has no physical form and no restrictions on the duration of its use,” Globant said.

Earlier, Nasdaq-listed Argentine company Mercado Libre said that in the first three months of 2021 it bought Bitcoin for $7.8 million.

In April, game publisher Nexon announced the purchase of 1,717 BTC at an average price of about $58,226. Investments in digital gold of $100 million accounted for less than 2% of the company’s total funds.

In May, the analytics software developer MicroStrategy additionally invested $10 million in the primary cryptocurrency. As of writing, the firm owns 92,079 BTC worth nearly $3.6 billion, according to Bitcoin Treasuries.

Earlier in the month, fintech company Mogo announced the acquisition of 146 ETH, 18 BTC and 19.99% of the shares of Canada’s leading cryptocurrency exchange Coinsquare.
