Jeff Bezos’ New AI Startup Secures $6.2 Billion in Funding
Jeff Bezos co-founds AI startup Project Prometheus, securing $6.2 billion.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has become a co-founder and one of the leaders of the AI startup Project Prometheus. The company has already secured $6.2 billion in funding, according to The New York Times.
This marks Bezos’ first operational role since stepping down as CEO of Amazon in 2021. He is entering direct competition with giants like Google, Meta, and OpenAI.
What is the project’s focus?
Project Prometheus will focus on developing AI for the real economy sectors: engineering and manufacturing in aerospace, computing, and automotive industries.
The goal is to create models that learn from real-world data, not just internet texts like LLM.
The second co-founder and co-CEO is Vik Bajaj, a physicist and chemist who previously worked at Google X’s research lab. He was also a founder of Verily and head of the Foresite Labs incubator.
Bajaj updated his profile on LinkedIn, but the startup’s page only describes it as: “AI for the physical economy.”

According to sources, the company has already hired about 100 employees, including researchers from OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta.
Market context and reaction
The startup is entering a crowded AI market. One of the first to react was Elon Musk, who is also developing his own project, xAI. He commented: “Haha no way,” hinting at direct copying.
