John McAfee says all cryptocurrency holdings have vanished

The entrepreneur John McAfee, detained in a Spanish prison, said that nothing remains of his cryptocurrency holdings and all other assets have been seized.

«The US believes I hid cryptocurrency. I wish I did, but it dissolved through the many hands of my team, and all other assets have been seized. My friends evaporated from fear of association. I have nothing. But I regret nothing», wrote McAfee.

The entrepreneur was arrested in October 2020 in Spain at the request of U.S. authorities.

In March 2020, McAfee was charged with fraud and money laundering. The maximum penalty on seven counts could be up to 100 years in prison. The entrepreneur called the legal claims “overblown”.

At the extradition hearing in court, McAfee said that the charges against him are politically motivated. Prosecutor Carlos Bautista rejected his claim.

«He is a tax rebel and nothing more. A millionaire who does not want to pay taxes. He will receive all the guarantees of due process,» Bautista said.

As reported, McAfee believes that the case against him is being used by U.S. authorities to crack down on all cryptocurrencies.
